Hauled out at Sarnia Yacht Club and available for viewing
RASCAL is a lightly modified Farr 40 One-design that was exhaustively refit in 2018
Purchased in 2016 with a plan to completely rebuild the hull and deck
Competed in 2019 Port Huron - Mac race and a handful of club races
Out of the water for 3 years due to Covid constraints
Recently, shallow water around the home club make it difficult to navigate locally and residual effects of the pandemic have limited sailing to a handful of club races and day sails
The rebuild has resulted in a very stiff hull and deck benefiting performance in all conditions.
The modifications from the standard Farr 40 are a slightly increased waterline length, 3 - 4", by plumbing the stem, and greater chamfer on the sheer line for enhanced crew comfort sitting on the rail, legs out
The interior has been freshened with a new paint job and the layout lends itself well to both day racing and distance racing
RASCAL offers a lot of potential as a serious line honours contender
REBUILD & REFIT
> Hull balsa core completely replaced from stem to stern
> The bow was modified to plumb from raked, adding 3 - 4" of waterline length - for aesthetic value*
> The hull was then faired and longboarded
> All deck balsa core replaced with high density fibre board
> The gunwhales were rounded more for enhanced crew comfort sitting on the rail legs out*
> Hull and deck were painted with Awlgrip
> The bottom was sprayed with seven coats of VC Offshore
> The interior was repainted with Pettit Eazypoxy
> V-berth fabricated and installed - readily removable to restore original configuration
> V-berth floorboards fabricated and installed
* these changes make Rascal ineligible for 1-design racing
> Running rigging replaced with Dyneema lines to class specs
> Standing rod rigging entirely replaced - Offshore Spars, MI
> Lifelines replaced with ss 1x19 wire - Abbott Boatworks, ON
> Bow and stern pulpits powder coated - Whitewater Marine, MI
> All winches refurbished
> Majority of Harken blocks have been replaced
> New steering wheel in the works - November 2023
> New i-series Raymarine instruments - 2019
> New autopilot - Garmin Octopus Model 1012 - wired and ready to be installed
> Engine was stripped down and rebuilt with new injectors, new waterpump, new water separator, all new hoses, clamps and gaskets and exhaust. Approximately 50 hours on engine since rebuild in 2018
